My credo and my experience:
The energy and ecological transition will take place via heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and home automation/CBM/BMT control.
We'll have to move away from fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas), which means electrifying our societies even further (for housing and transport).
Alternatively, storing CO2 is a bit utopian, if not worse.
- Heat pumps have undergone considerable development over the last decade, and are without doubt the most efficient way of heating or cooling your home, producing hot water or heating your swimming pool. It is 3-5 times more efficient to use a heat pump than any other means of heating/air conditioning.
- Optimization via home automation systems , BMS/CBM (Building Management Systems) is the most economically efficient system, enablingoptimization at lower cost and generating immediate and substantial savings. Installing a thermostatic valve at home is just the ticket.
- As societies become more electrified, photovoltaic solar power is a formidable resource, cheap, very clean, very easy and quick to implement, not without a few drawbacks at night, of course (but nuclear power has a few drawbacks too, isn't it?).
